Causes and Symptoms
The causes of premature ejaculation can be many. In a majority of cases, the problem is caused by a combination of physiological and mental triggers. Premature ejaculation may be purely caused by weak muscles, exercises over time can remedy the situation. However, research indicates that in many cases, the cause is a combination of the non-physical and physical factors (for example stress), more time than not the weak muscles are the cause (as often as 73% of the time).
Symptoms of PE
There have been many attempts made to define what actually qualifies as premature ejaculation. There are two guidelines that are well known:
- Master and Johnson suggest that a male suffers from PE if his partner orgasms before he ejaculates more than half the time.
- Researchers have suggested that a male suffers from PE if he orgasms in under 2 minutes after the penetration. A survey by Alfred Kinsey in the 1950s showed that as much as 70% of men do not last 2 minutes.
The current idea of PE is more subjective and often depends on an individual’s perception of how much he can satisfy his wife.
